When arranging flowers, balloon bouquets, or job presentations, do you use the rule of three? With flowers & balloons, optically we like odd numbered or non-symmetric arrangements. Impress your mates with this tip, do not make a balloon corsage of 2 or four balloons, stick with three!

Before I get to job presentations, I need to relate a cute baseball tale to supply bigger context for the rule of three.

Many years agone I trained T-ball with a companion who was 6′10″. At 5′7″ it is safe to state I very appeared up to this person. We were coaching five year ancient youngsters & this was their foray into baseball.

At one of our earlier practices, Bill watched me providing instruction on how to hit the ball off the “tee”. He phoned for me what I was doing. Our cipher was to take our premier 2 thumbs & point to our eyes, as a reminder to WATCH the bat hit the ball. Sounded bare enough, & with practise most did. Lastly they had to remember to run. That is wherever the parents were quick to aid coach by yelling from the stands RUN RUN when the hit was made. Our premier batter in our premier game hit the ball & ran for … you guessed it, straight out to 2nd station & kept going! We studied a lot that year!

Bill later explicated to me, not only kids, but adults have brief memories. Tell them one thing they will remember it, say them 2 & you are still safe, say them three & they might remember it but dont go recent three. He phoned this the rule of three.

How do you purchase the rule of three in business?
- First, prioritize the three most significant points you need to communicate.
- Second, relate every point to anything acquainted to your audience, captivate their concern & attention.
- Third, be coherent & repeat the three points to reinforce your message.

Think about your next presentation. What are the three most decisive points you need to message? Do you begin & finalizes by reinforcing them? If you are utilising PowerPoint, limit your bullets to three per slide. This forces you to conveive in threes & prioritize your communication. Lastly, how do your points relate to your audience? Are they a call to action? Why are they important? How will they benefit your audience? A wise person once recommended, “Tell them what you are going to say them. Tell them. Then finalizes by reminding them what you said them!”

Start practising the rule of three. You will be surprised how well it will labor for you!
